Life happens.

When trouble hits at work, Solidarity is ready. With the biggest labour law team in South Africa, we stand by you in hearings, unfair dismissals, discrimination cases, and more – every day.

Solidarity supports members injured at work or suffering from occupational diseases by assisting with CCMA claims and ensuring safer workplaces. Our legal teams handle over 2 500 labour cases at any given time – from unfair dismissals and discrimination to basic employment rights.

We are also building the future of work, where you can be free, safe and prosperous. Solidarity offers professional networks and we empower members with lifelong learning and bring employees and employers together.

Solidarity membership makes a distinction between collective and individual members:

Collective members

Employees who work at large companies where Solidarity already has a collective agreement, or at companies that are served in a group context and are considered collective by Solidarity. Collective members’ Solidarity membership fee is deducted directly from their salaries by the employer and paid over to Solidarity.

Individual members
Solidarity is the only trade union in South Africa that has a dedicated section for individual members. Individual members are employees who work at companies where Solidarity does not have a recognition agreement, and members are not served in a group context. Individual members’ membership fee is deducted directly from the employee’s bank account by debit order.

Solidarity supporters

Building Fund members

  • Building Fund members: Help us build educational institutions like Sol-Tech and Akademia, investing in the future of South Africa’s youth. This is a support tier – legal benefits are not included.
  • Legal Fund members: Help us fight race-based discrimination and unlawful workplace practices in court. Your support keeps the fight alive. This is a support tier – legal benefits are not included.

A Member of Solidarity is part of a much larger Network of work. It is much bigger than just a traditional union because you have access to so many more benefits and protections.

At Solidarity, we work diligently and dream of expanding the opportunities for training even further. Membership offers you more than legal assistance. You are part of a network investing in your future!

The cancellation of Solidarity membership is subject to 30 days written notice which must be sent directly to the union. kansellasies@solidariteit.co.za
